CAM Woodwork Ltd produced a set of CNC-machined arched MDF doors and decorative bar shelf surrounds for an interior fit-out in Newbury, Berkshire. This case study covers the CAD-to-CNC workflow from drawing import through to finished components ready for painting.

Client Objective

The client supplied PDF files that were used to create CAD drawings for arched stable doors with recessed panel details, designed for an art-deco interior scheme. The requirement was precise CNC machining — consistent curved profiles, clean 6mm recess pockets, and smooth surfaces suitable for hand-painting and wallpapering.

Our Solution

CAD to CNC Workflow AutoCAD drawings were imported into Alphacam for toolpath programming. Profile toolpaths were created for the arched outer shapes; pocket toolpaths for the 6mm recessed panel details. Full depth, pass strategy, and tool selection were defined before any material was cut.

Machining 25mm MDF sheets were CNC-routed using a two-stage strategy: profile cuts for the outer arch form and pocket cuts for the recessed panel detail. Reverse shapes were cut from 9mm MDF and press-laminated with industrial adhesive to build up the door structure and achieve the required depth without solid timber.

Outcome
